Interview introspection...interesting idea.

C'mon you have to like that terribly tantalizing title.   I guess I am in an alliteration mode.  Sorry about that.  Now to the point...

In the CareerHub blog I saw a post from Sital Ruparalia which list a few things to do AFTER an interview.

He listed 5 simple steps and a post-interview analysis plan:

1. Write down the top 5 things you did really well during the interview

2. Write down the biggest lesson you learned (only ONE)

3. Decide on the one or two things you will do differently next time you interview (the one or two things that will make the biggest difference to your success)

4. Go and do something completely different that’s unrelated to interviews so that your brain gets to switch off

5. Share your lesson with others so that you create some self accountability in following through with it

When you go through these steps after an interview, it allows you to:

- Stop over focusing on all the things that didn’t go so well (e.g. a question you answered badly)
- Take confidence from all the things that went well
- Be rational in putting errors and lessons into context
- Ensure you are continuously learning and improving until you’re successful

I think this is GREAT advice.  I think a lot about how to get an interview and what to do during an interview.  I also give some thought to what I should do after the interview (send a thank you note).  But I haven't given a lot of though to how I should analyze my performance like he suggests.

It's great advice.  We should all try these simple steps.

I do this...well...almost. I don't write it down but I go over an interview in my head (sometimes again and again). I try to learn from one so I can cake the second one.
